Captains Of Industry

is a loosely connected organisation of like-minded writers, musicians, artists, poets, publishers, record labels, producers, fanzines and other deviants of the artistic / altruistic process. Through a simple shared philosophy the collective aims to share resources and provide cross-cultural reference points in order to aid creative output and spread a message of opposition to those who misuse their positions of power - be they artistic, economic or political.

An Emergency are from Exeter, Devon and play angular, arty post-punk rock that careers violently from one mood to another. Formed in late 2003, they released a record that year and played shows with the likes of The Bronx, Q And Not U, The Blood Brothers, Hell Is For Heroes, Gay for Johnny Depp, Retisonic and Help! She Can't Swim.

Live, An Emergency reflect the cathartic, edgy sound of their music, an explosion of non-linear guitar sounds and anti-melodies. Early press reviews noted comparisons to the energy and economy of the likes of Hot Snakes, Minutemen and At The Drive-In.

Their first release ‘ If This Is The Future Count Us In ’ (Freakscene Records, August 2004) was a documentation of the beginning of the band and picked up a tonne of great reviews, placing An Emergency at the heart of the fertile UK underground and on a number of compilations.

Their new record ‘ We Are The Octagonists’ is a frantic, fraught and more refined take on all things post-punk and post-hardcore – that vast landscape where any goes so long as it ’s plugged straight into the mains. The album was recorded, produced and designed by the band before grabbing the attention of Captains Of Industry label, who heard traces of The Pop Group, Bloc Party and fellow up-and-coming Brit bands such as Forward! Russia and This Aint Vegas in An Emergency's tangled bass-less squall.

When in Exeter the trio can be found as active members of the local scene which centres around the Cavern Club, putting on shows, organising releases, designing art for other bands and generally shooting the shit with their friends. Like a symphony of sirens in a car crash collision, An Emergency are hard to ignore.
