Captains Of Industry

is a loosely connected organisation of like-minded writers, musicians, artists, poets, publishers, record labels, producers, fanzines and other deviants of the artistic / altruistic process. Through a simple shared philosophy the collective aims to share resources and provide cross-cultural reference points in order to aid creative output and spread a message of opposition to those who misuse their positions of power - be they artistic, economic or political.

Watch out girls (and boys)....

Marty Leopard from New York reprobates Gay For Johnny Depp is in London town to do NME's 'Pub Golf' xmas feature. Expect drinking. Expect fighting. Expect Johnny flavoured breakfast cereal. He will be getting sexy with Lethal Bizzle (bizzle bizzle!!), Andy Falkous from Future Of The Left and some random blokes from Hadouken, Duke Spirit and The Twang. And probably some other random indie blokes.

A message from our friends Karoshi Bros....

Our friends Karoshi Bros are releasing a new single this month, Love The World, on new label We Are Woodville. We prefer their Fuck The World version (for no other reason than swearing in songs is good) but hey, the pressures of radio playlists n that. Its very good. Listen to various mixes on myspaceIt also has a rather tasty video on Video-CSome important people said these kind words:Jerry Bouthier (Kitsune / Boombox / M8)From the people who brought you Paper the label, now comes We Are Woodville, a brand new imprint which is going to ignore musical genres (hooray!). And if this first release is anything to go by, We Are Woodville could well turn into the eclectic electro (eclecto?) label the UK so badly needs...

Some Gay For Johnny Depp album reviews

Some corking reviews of the new Gay For Johnn Depp album are filtering through. Watch out for reviews/features in Kerrang, Terrorizer, Rock Sound, Big Cheese, Total Guitar etc. Plus these little online beauties:ROCK MIDGETS Exploding out of the blocks with the razor sharp guitars and throat ripping screams of the delightfully titled 'Cumpassion', Gay For Johnny Depp's debut full-length The Politic of Cruelty is a consummate lesson in uneasy listening. Bringing together twelve positively bile-infested chunks of molten hot hardcore in little over twenty minutes, it's a quite stunning statement of discontent. Fans of the band's well received EP's will be delighted to find that there's no concessions made here, with 'You Have a Theory, I Have a Gun' and 'Belief in God is So Adorable' being about as gloriously uncommercial a pair of singles as you're likely to hear all year, while closing track 'I Hate Our Freedom (Fuck You Gladys, I'm on Vacation)' is the kind of claustrophobic headfuck that will leave you nursing a migraine for days after one too many listens...

Gay For Johnny Depp new album

Here it is: the long-awaited full-length from provocative New York quartet Gay For Johnny Depp. Within are twelve hardcore songs of De Sade-inspired smut, sex, lust and desire. Gasp! at the ferocity of album opener ‘Cumpassion’. Swoon! to the tune of lead single ‘You Have A Theory, I Have A Gun’. Wig out! to epic closer ‘I Hate Our Freedom (Fuck You Gladys, I'm On Vacation)’. To celebrate the miserable death of Guy Fawkes/F*cks/whoever, the album hits the shops on Monday 5th November but you can get your grubby little hands on it here. The first 69 orders will come with a hot poster. Best lube up, get sexy and dive on in... Oh yeah, you can still get their sexy little single 'You Have A Theory, I Have A Gun' from download sites...

Our World Our Say

Dear Friend Tony Blair is stepping down this month, but tragically for millions of people the decisions he took will have repercussions for years to come. The authors of a study in The Lancet estimate that at least 650,000 Iraqi people have died since the invasion of Iraq. Britain's involvement in the "war on terror" has not made the world any safer - on the contrary, it seems it has radicalised a whole new generation of people throughout the world. Do we really believe, for example - as Tony Blair always insisted - that the London tube bombings had nothing to do with our involvement in this "war" or our occupation of Iraq? And now that we are in this "war", just how do we get out? With no definable enemy, it seems we are "at war" with potentially millions of people...

Petition against 'Pay as you go' road tax

There are only a few days left to register your objection to the 'Pay as yougo' road tax - which closes to petitions on the 20th February 2007.The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybodyabout it. Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with alink in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition. Democracy in action? The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having topurchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC,the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a deliverydriver...

We want you to recruit and manage our street teams (we already have many in place) and organise the campaigns. At times we may also need help with recruiting bands and labels. You can work from home so you will need an internet connection and a mobile. Home to some of the best gigs ever witnessed in recent times, The Astoria is up for development. Life wouldn't be the same without making new friends in the Keith Moon bar, absently gazing at the really bad paintings of Jimi Hendrix (or is Lionel Ritchie?) and John Lennon, or sneaking jazz cigarettes on the balcony. A word from our friends The (International) Noise Conspiracy

Imagine your nearest airport being bombed. Imagine bridges and roads around you being destroyed. Imagine power plants, electricity, hospitals, government buildings being destroyed and sewers stop functioning. Imagine no water coming from the tap. Imagine no food or medicine or outside humanitarian help being allowed into your country. Imagine a rain of bombs falling over houses, churches and stores so that ten, twenty, fifty civilians are killed every day.Imagine an army kidnapping half of your government and taking them out of the country. Imagine the same army every night firing sound bombs above your roof so your windows are blow open, nobody can sleep and your kids getting stomach pains from pure stress...

The soundtrack of war

'Dude (Looks Like A Lady)' versus 'White Lines' - who would you listen to while killing people? An interesting read. Taken From The Observer Music Monthly, Sunday July 16, 2006 Louder than bombs Every conflict has its own soundrack. The Observer's award-winning war correspondent Jason Burke tells why hip hop, Aerosmith and Wagner still echo around the world's hot spots It was dusk, of course. Through the open gun port of the helicopter, past the crewman, and the heavy machine gun and its muzzle, I could see the open water beneath us, the line of the mangrove swamps to the left and the red and green tracer fire that pulsed up in long, lazy bursts from the jungle and then fell back into the grey foliage...

Marmaduke Duke made flesh.

Nine days after the summer day has been stretched the longest, the spirit of Marmaduke Duke shall be manifested in physical form in a borough of Northern Londinium. Magnificence and Pandemonium will be expressed and future generations of minions will speak in hushed tones of the myth, the magic, the majesty of those crazy, hazy Duke days at the dawn of the 21st century. Drugs.....

The British music industry is a dull, corporate world these days but at least one girl has been doing her bit to bring back the spirit of the 70s and 80s. A blonde executive at SonyBMG has been making friends with many of the label's top bands like Oasis and The Zutons thanks to a prolific consumption and provision of "fruit and flowers". Sadly the gakhead's appetite was not matched by her salary and she suddenly found herself stuck with a five grand debt to her dealers for the stars cocaine. Label bosses have checked her into rehab at the Priory and are trying to sort the mess out quietly. **************************************************************************************** Mexican President Vicente Fox declared that he would sign a bill to legalise recreational drug use in Mexico...

Remembering the Armenian Genocide

April 24, 1915 is the day the world remembers all those who fell victim to the Turkish government and their genocide towards the more than 1.5 million Armenians. Children, women, and men starved to death, marched through the desert, brutally beaten and raped among other indescribable atrocities. Armenians the world over shall never cease to stop banging at the world's door until justice is served. And now just Armenainas either, but anyone sick of humanity's lies, bruality, corruption and cover-up's.

An Emergency cancel shows....

A note from the band: We've had to pull out of the majority of our short tour this month, cancelling shows in London, Kingston, Leeds, Manchester and Oxford. As we mentioned in our last update, this is due to a death in the family of one of AEs members. We're sorry to anybody who may have been coming out to see us, as well as the promoters but hope you can understand. We're planning on playing our Exeter show and also the show at the Dublin Castle at the end of the month. As far as we know the shows we have pulled out of are still going ahead so get down there to check out some incredible bands. We're gonna try and re-schedule a tour for July/August so watch this space...

Gay For Johnny Depp's highway to heel….

Gay For Johnny Depp frontman injures himself on stage. AgainSpare a thought this week for Gay For Johnny Depp frontman Marty Leopard who has shattered his foot during the band's first hometown show of 2006.Leopard, single white male, bi-curious, broke his heel after a brave and foolish leap from a table in Brooklyn's cruising joint/venue Galapagos whilst wearing only his underwear. Also playing on the bill were a bunch of bands no-one can remember. "We were pretty drunk for most of the show so have no memory of what happened," said band spokesman/guitarist Sid Jagger. "Sorry. I do remember that there was a cross dresser as master of ceremonies though...

Pandemonium

A quick update on the life of Marmaduke Duke. The Duke's latest installment, originally told in the Homeric oral tradition, has been translated into music by his hirsute earthly representatives, The Dragon and The Atmosphere. It goes by the name of 'Duke Pandemoium' and features nine pieces of music, each vastly different from one another. Sample titles includes 'Silhoettes', 'Pink Rubber Lover' and 'Everybody Dance'. Expect to see a single before the album. Expect to see rainfall before the single. Expect to see dark clouds before the rain. Expect nothing and you will always be happy.

Each month we're also offering a free downloadable compilation album 'Liberation Music' for you to rip and burn or add to your generic non branded mp3 pod. We're giving away our entire back catalogue this way over the next year and will continue to do this as long as people express an interest. Pontious Pilots...

We Will Be Pilot's 2005 debut 'This Is What You Fight For’ continues to receive love from all-comers. Check out the new review on www.caughtintehcrossfire.com this week: "It’s always a pleasure to uncover a total gem of an album sitting on the shelf and this is a beauty. We Will Be Pilots’ are part of Captain of Industry’s growing stable of unfettered talent and this mini album is over brimming with fuzzy unpolished vocals, catchy hooks and a tight guitar disco-vibe sound that hits the spot. The storming ‘We are Not The Doctors’ rampages out of control with a growing sense of urgency – pop punk seared with screamo (without the caterwauling vocals) pounding out like a wrecking ball to the senses...

It's grate when you're straight...yeah!

Arguably the three cheeriest people in the world, Patience, Alana and John - that would be The Grates - have now signed to Interscope and are working on their debut album. They have many shows lined up, including playing South By South West in Austin, Texas in March '06. See www.thegrates.com. We have a highly limited amount of copies of their imported four track ‘Message’ CD (featuring ‘Sukkafish’) left. Chuck another kanga steak on the griddle, then buy one. We wish them well for the future.

Smalltown America is a very fine independet UK record label. Actually we're sort of jealous of them because they're more organised than us. HOWEVER we're not envious and suppor their cause whole-heartedly. Which is why we recommend you check out their latest compilation 'Public Service Broadcast #7' which features Captains Of Industry's very own An Emergency. It's limited to a mere 500 copies so it might well have sold out and the full tracklisting is below. Viddy well, brothers and sisters. Viddy well.... 1. Buy curious...

The world’s hottest band Gay For Johnny Depp are currently back in Brooklyn working on a full-length (and we mean full and, indeed, length) carnival of musical smut. It’ll be released when it’s finsiehd and the stains wiped away. There is also talk of Gay For Johnny Depp split record – with themselves, naturally – on the rather special Gravity Dip Records sometime in 2006. In the meantime, send them filth at: www.gayforjohnnydepp.com or check out their various related bands including Fires, Instruction and Hopewell.

Marmaduke Duke: the quest continues...

The second installment of Marmaduke Duke’s trilogy, Duke Pandemonium, is near to completion. A vast departure from their The Magnificent Duke debut in sound, style and structure, it’s a funk-filled twisted pop opus. Marmaduke Duke have been rumoured to feature members of Sucioperro Biffy Clyro. Expect a single preceding the album…and some tour dates. Those who saw the band play their first ever shows late 2005 will know special they are live. The Duke himself is currently in Eastern Europe on a fact-finding mission.

Favez open for The Pixies

Favez opened for The Pixies at the Geneva Arena on june 27th. Shit Captains saw them play to 10 people in Sunderland..... When asked about it pre-gig they unexcitedly said about supporting the Legendary band " they don't care, their audience doesn't care and you're way too nervous to play a good show and if the bass player comes to check you out you make a mistake just when she's looking". And that's sort of how it was, except that the audience was pretty nice to them, Mrs kim d. came to check them out and, (as they didn't realise it), so they didn't make any mistakes ." very frankly, we had fun but it's not that big a deal (ooops, bad choice of words here...

Movers Mangle España

The Illegal Movers have taken their riotous punkpoppowerduelux to the sunny shores of España as the guests of the awesome Los Chicos. The geordie punk quartet have already had a massive response from Spanish radio stations and first shows suggest that Spanish punks appreciate their knuckle dragging, guitar shredding escapades. Needless to say with a line up of The Movers and Los Chicos the bars will be drained and mayhem will ensue.
